Forest Friendly Farming is offering young commoners: Training for towing larger trailers

If you passed your car driving test on or after 1 January 1997 and you now want to tow a livestock or other trailer you may have to take a specific practical test.

The training being offered through the LEADER+ Small Grant Scheme is designed to help young commoners and others involved in practical land management in the New Forest to pass their compulsory Category B&E Towing Larger Trailers test.

The cost of the course to eligible applicants is only £30, the rest of the cost is provided by New Forest LEADER+. However please note: the actual test is not part of this course and will have to be organized and paid for separately by the participant.

The day consists of six hours of practical training by staff from SparsholtCollege, using a 4x4 vehicle and horsebox/trailer. The course covers: loading a trailer, hitching and un-hitching, towing and the law, stability, snaking, driving in different weather and road conditions, breaking, reversing and general safety. Practical instruction will also involve road driving.

This training is open to young commoners or self employed young people involved in land management activities in the Forest (e.g. forestry contractors) who can demonstrate that they derive some income from the activity and that they have had some towing experience and can reverse reasonably well.

There are a limited number of places available on each course and places will be allocated to eligible applicants on a first come first served basis. The training will be held at Sparsholt College, Near Winchester.
